Last Friday, I had the divine pleasure of interviewing the benificent and beautiful Jill Scott at the Television Critics Association Press Tour. She was there along with the equally angelic Anika Noni Rose to promote their new HBO series “The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency.” Set in the country of Botswana, the show chronicles the adventures and self-exploration of two ambitious women, as they work together to help their community, solving one mystery at at time.
The show is unlike anything else currently on TV. It’s bursting with light and serenity. Dare I say, the content may be too calm for our increasingly attention-deficit-disordered minds. But I highly recommend the show to anyone who would like to see a depiction of Africa that is NOT driven by violence and devastation. (It’s finally happening.)
The cinematography is so gorgeous it makes me giddy. And the COLORS! The vibrancy of the colors alone have called me to Botswana. Jill says colors there never fade, and the white is so crisp and bold it pierces your eyes.
Speaking of Jill…I taught her how to use my new Pure Digital Flip Cam, which I deem the greatest gadget since the iPod. She’s had her own Flip for months, but she hasn’t wanted to even open the box…until now.
